Veterans Give Presentation to 10th -12th grade Lafayette High School Students

On January 21st Veterans Gary Weiss, Jerry Schindler, Les Olson, Dennis Haglund, and Doug Derosier presented at Lafayette High School to the 10th and 12th graders on their military experience.  This was their second presentation to the students as they had presented to the 7th -9th graders in December.

Each veteran explained to the students their experience in the military, from why they entered, what jobs they did, and the experiences they were part of.  A few of the men have also attended the Honor Flight for Veterans and they took the time to explain what they did as members of that.  As part of the presentation the veterans had many photos to share in a slide show and they also brought in some medals for the students to view.  Gary Weiss, one of the presenters, received a purple heart medal while in the service.  The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the president of the United States to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who, while serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of the U.S. Armed Services after 5 April 1917, has been wounded or killed.
